We are extremely happy to announce a new addition to the IFTAS Advisory Board:
Jon Pincus has officially joined us as an Advisor on Moderator Support. Jon’s background as a strategist, software engineer, entrepreneur, activist, and privacy advocate adds a broad perspective to our work on privacy, disinformation and safety that will be meaningfully relevant this busy election year.

Jon’s work focuses on justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality. For the last fifteen years, his research focus has been on re-imagining computer science as a social science. Jon runs the Nexus of Privacy newsletter, and is also a member of Disinfo Defense League (DDL), a distributed national network of organizers, researchers and disinformation experts disrupting online racialized disinformation infrastructure and campaigns.
On the Fediverse, Jon has written extensively about the successes and challenges of decentralised social media, including Lessons (so far) from Mastodon, Black Twitter, quoting, and white views of toxicity on Mastodon, and Steps towards a safer fediverse
A Message from Jon
“Decentralized social networks are the wave of the future – if they can address problems like harassment, racism, anti-LGBTQ bigotry and disinformation that today’s centralized social networks don’t. IFTAS can play a key role in addressing those challenges, and I’m looking forward to helping!”
