About the IFTAS Community Library

The library is our community’s way to share best practice, provide definitions, and links to research, guidance and more that can help you moderate your membership. Unless otherwise noted, all Library content is CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.

Every community is different. The library materials avoid judging what is the right or wrong decision, but can be helpful in adding context or information to help you reach a decision that’s right for you.

We welcome community contributions to the Library! If you are creating material for the Library, please consider the following guidance:

  • Write in clear, straightforward language to ensure that moderators of all experience levels can understand the content. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible, or provide definitions or links to definitions when they are necessary. Future efforts will include translation of library content, we want to be sure we can do that effectively.
  • Maintain a neutral tone throughout your articles. Present different viewpoints fairly, especially on controversial topics, to avoid bias. Do not favour one platform, tool, or approach over another without providing evidence and context.
  • If your content strays into legal or compliance issues, insert the legal disclaimer found below.
  • Base your articles on reliable data sources. Cite your sources clearly to allow readers to verify the information and explore further if they wish.
  • Include practical advice, steps, or strategies that moderators can apply, regardless of their experience level. Real-world examples, case studies, or scenarios can help illustrate complex issues and solutions more effectively.
  • If appropriate to the subject matter, highlight the ethical and legal implications related to content moderation. Encourage moderators to consider the impact of their actions on community members and to respect their privacy, intellectual property rights, and freedom of expression.
